Joseph Conrad, actually Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski of Nałęcz coat of arms (born on December 3, 1857 in Berdyczów, died on August 3, 1924 in Bishopsbourne) - English writer and journalist of Polish origin.Józef Korzeniowski was the son of the writer Apollon Korzeniowski. Having not graduated from gymnasium, he went to France in 1874 and joined the ship as a simple seaman. In 1894 he settled in England and devoted himself to writing; just a year later, he published his first novel, Almayer's Madness. When publishing abroad, he used the pseudonym "Joseph Conrad", which he created from the names: Józef and Konrad. Korzeniowski's outstanding work remains an isolated phenomenon in world literature, combining the trend of romanticism with positivism, symbolism with impressionism. In the title of one of his novels, Michał Choromański called Joseph Conrad "Slovak of tropical islands". Most of the translations into Polish, authorized by Korzeniowski, are the work of the writer's cousin, Aniela Zagórska
