Jerome a town in Arizona in the Unidet States, is guiet- very quiet.. oNLY ABOUT 300 people live here. But in the past, it was much busier.. In the first part of the 20 century. Jerome was full of people. There was gold in the hills near th town, and silver, too. people came from other parts of the United States to live and work here. By 1930 Jerome hand 15,000 people. There ware hotels, shops a high school. But by 1950 there was no more gold or silver, and by 1960, Jerome was a ghost town. The houses were empty. there were no childeren in the school. In fact, only about 5 people lived in the towm! Todat, tourists sometimes visits Jerome. They come to find out about its history. there's still a High School in Jerome, but there are no students in it. Instead, there are artists- they paint pictures of the town and put them on the walls. Even a ghost town can be bautiful.
